Dirty laundry

“Thank you,” Bethany says as a young man opens the door for her.

“Do you need any help?” he asks as she carries a huge laundry basket of clothes to a nearby counter.

“No thank you,” she replies.

She makes one more trip to the car for her last laundry basket. “Ugh,” she says as she throws the last basket onto the counter. The room smells of fabric softener and detergent. She retrieves all of her towels and throws them in the nearest washing machine. Placing a little detergent in her load, she peers off to the right and notices someone staring at her. It is the same gentlemen who had offered to help her. She smiles as she continues to sort out her laundry.

“Hmm,” she says out loud as she starts to place her whites in the next washer over. Bethany starts to look for her fabric softener and realizes that she left it at home. Uh, I have to have that, she thinks to herself as she starts to look around. Oh good, there’s a machine that sells fabric softener.

As she makes her way over to the machine, she can feel eyes on her. She tries not to look in the direction of this man from earlier. Feeling a little uncomfortable, she does her best to not make eye contact. Slowly she walks back to her washers and places the softener back in the load. “There,” she says with a sigh of relief.

Reaching for her purse, she rummages through it looking for her book. “Found it,” she quietly says to herself. “Okay, now where was I? Oh yeah, this is a good murder mystery.” After 15 minutes of being completely enthralled with her book, she looks up to check on her wash. She notices the same man on his laptop; it looks as though he is researching something important. “Hmm.” Although she is not completely interested in this stranger, something about him captures her eye.

Intrigued with what he is doing, she finds herself staring. He looks her direction and finds her staring. “How incredibly embarrassing,” she says as she looks away in a hurry.

Her loads of laundry reach the final spin and she makes her way over to them. Trying desperately not to look in his direction, she places the clothes in the dryer. She can see him changing out his load and making his way over to the dryers where she now stands. With her heart beating she courageously looks up and says, “Hi.”

“Hello,” he responds. “I am Damien.”

“My name is Bethany,” she replies as she finds herself lost in his huge, dark eyes. It’s so unfair to have eyelashes that long, she thinks to herself as he smiles at her. Wow, he is much more attractive that I had anticipated.

“I haven’t seen you here before,” he says as he loads his laundry into the dryer.

“My washer broke at home and I don’t want to take home a bunch of wet clothes to dry them.”

“Oh,” he responds as he watches her with her clothes.
