Tony and Megan escorted Dreadlocks and Ponytail to the old beat up truck. Megan got in the passenger side, and Tony opened the driver’s door.

“You two Einsteins can ride in back with Panzer,” Tony said. Then he looked into his dog’s eyes and said, “Try not to kill them like you did those other guys.”

Panzer gave a slight bark and then jumped into the bed of the truck.

Dreadlocks flipped his hair back. “Hey, man. It’s not safe back there. Not with that beast. He’s like a damn bear. At least take these damn straps off our hands.”

“Yeah,” Ponytail agreed. “We could get thrown from the vehicle. Hate to have that on your conscience.”

Tony smiled, got behind the wheel, and hung out the window. “I’ll take that risk.” Then he watched the men in the rearview mirror.

The guys looked at each other, shook their heads and then climbed in back, pulling the tailgate shut behind them.

Dreadlocks shouted to Ponytail, “I tell you. This guy is nuts. He whacked the tree huggers.”

Tony started the truck and then backed up quickly, sending the two men flying into the cab and sprawling to the metal bed like a couple of turtles flipping to their shells.

“Sorry,” Tony said out the window. He smiled and pulled away forward, flinging the men into the tailgate. But he looked back to make sure Panzer was all right. His dog was used to riding in the back down bumpy roads, and had reacted fine to Tony’s erratic driving.
