Jadon calls the next night.

“Are you ready for me this weekend? I can’t wait to see you.” He doesn’t bother to say hello.

“So ready. Do you have to wait until Friday? Can’t you come tomorrow?”

He laughs. “I wish. Unfortunately, I have back-to-back meetings for the next few days. Friday is the first chance I get, and I had to do major calisthenics to get that working…”

“Ugh. I hate your life.”

He sighs into the phone and I can imagine his eyes getting that distant look in them when he makes that sound. “Most days I do too, little one. But…it’ll make our time together this weekend all the better, right? Right?” he says, laughing again.

I snort. “You sound like you’re threatening me to have a good time. I can’t be bought, King Jadon,” I say in my most proper Farrow accent.

“Nevah, nevah, good lady. I shan’t resort to forcing anyone to do anything from henceforth.”

“Oh, Lord, you need to get out more,” I moan. “Hurry up and get here. You’re losing your cool card fast.”

He laughs and we hang up a few minutes later, after deciding where we’ll go over the weekend. I promise to give Eden all the details and see what she can do with us.

Hopefully, it’ll be just what I need to get my mind off of Gentry.
