Chapter 2: An Old Friend

Jack couldn't find a spot in the cafe parking lot, so he had to park on the street. It didn’t bother him too much, he could still see the mustang through one of the café’s windows.

He locked the car, and paused for a minute looking at himself in the side mirror and fixing his bangs that had blown in every direction. Once he was remotely happy with his hair, he entered the cafe, frowning when he saw that it wasn’t nearly as crowded as the parking lot led him to believe. It meant that people had parked there just to do some window-shopping along the sidewalk.

He gazed around the cafe' until his eyes caught sight of a very familiar face. His heart almost jumped out into his hands, his mouth went dry and his blue eyes widened. Jasmine was sitting right by the counter.

Jasmine was a heavy-set woman with brown hair put up in dreadlocks, her rich brown skin looked so smooth he wanted to reach out and touch her like he used to. He could stare into her mystical browns eyes all day. There she was, after weeks of trying to find her and not having a clue where she might be; she was sitting right there before him, reading the newspaper casually. Her eyes moved back and forth, with her lips moving slightly as she read the latest article on the tabloid.

Jack couldn't help but smile as he watched, even though she had no clue he was there. He loved how she moved her lips while she was reading to herself; he always thought it was incredibly cute. It reminded him of the times they would lay in bed together and he would go over his notebook, getting ready for meetings the following morning. He would look over at her and see her reading one of her romance novels, and it turned him on instantly. She always made sex fun and exciting when they were together.

Jack didn't see anyone sitting beside or across from her, there was no man at the counter to get two cups of coffee to bring back to the booth. Jack knew that her being alone didn’t mean that she was single, but it did make him hopeful.

He felt his feet shuffling forward, walking to her booth slowly. His heart beating faster and faster in his chest, his mouth dry as he reached her booth. It took her a few minutes to even realize anyone was there staring at her.

Jack cleared his throat after standing there about five minutes. He didn't want anyone to think he was stalking her. He promised himself that he wasn't going to bring up her running off on him and not explaining why. He didn't want to start off on the wrong foot. He was just happy to see her again.

“Jack is that you?” Jasmine looked up from the paper when she heard the noise. She tried to hide her shock but was sure her brown eyes gave her away.
