Throbbing Fire of Passion

James finished putting his track-suit on and headed down to the executive gym at the hotel. He’d made sure to put in an appearance early in the day, so it wouldn’t be unusual to see him leaving the hotel room. And no one recognize him walking alone down the hallway. He traveled down his private elevator and exited at the ground floor, nodding to a doorman who would tell everyone Mr. James Barbie hadn’t been feeling very well that evening and went to bed early. Money could buy a lot of silence.

He was planning on going to bed all right, but not alone.

James ducked into a closet once when no one was looking and changed his track suit into one from a different designer. He’d noticed an immigrant maid using the closet earlier in the day and slipped her a few hundred to give him a duplicate pass card. Later, he’d use the same pass card to change again. The maid would be paid to dispose of his second set of work-out clothes later. He’d planned every eventuality.

Once changed, James made his way to the room he’d rented under a fake name earlier in the week. It was a modest single bedroom with a lounging area. Just the sort of place families traveling around the country would rent for a vacation. Or lovers might use for a rendezvous. Other than the bedroom separate from the lounge, there was little to make the room special. And it served his purposed well. It was also on the corner of the hotel floor, not adjoining any other of the guest rooms.

Shondra had to know what the number represented on the card. All he had to do was leave the door unlocked and wait. If he’d judged wrong, well what could a card from a limo company mean with a room number and time on it? It wasn’t his handwriting, how could she ever prove he’d tried to set-up anything with her? No one would believe the poor little office drone. Besides, opportunistic women were always trying to get at rich and powerful men.

Sure enough, there was a knock at the door at five minutes before 10 PM.

“Hello?” he heard Shondra say. “Is anyone here?”

“Come in and close the door behind you,” he instructed from the couch in the room.

Shondra walked into the hotel room and did as told. The light was on over the couch and the bedroom wasn’t visible from her angle. Which is what he’d wanted. No reason to scare his little dove away. Even at this stage of the game he could honestly say she’d received the wrong card if Shondra appeared shocked.

Which she wasn’t.

“You wanted to see me, Mr. James?” a quiet and soft voice said to him.

“I told you to call me Jim.”

“Why did you want to see me, Jim?”

He indicated the couch. “Come over and sit next to me. I won’t hurt you.”

Once again, Shondra did as instructed and looked at her employer with her big brown eyes, specially highlighted for effect.
