Ariana woke up with the driest of dry mouths. She lifted her pounding head and squinted her eyes against the harshness of the bright sun.

What did you do?

“Good morning,” a raspy voice said next to her.

Her head darted up to the noise.

It was Edward.

She rubbed her eyes, accidentally digging the sand stuck to her palms into them. “Mmm” she grunted.

She looked around with groggy eyes. She was on a beach. A couple jogged by near the waterline, the two of them with identical strides.

Ariana was horrified. This was completely unprofessional. She could feel that promotion of hers slipping away like the retreating ocean tide.

“I’m so sorry,” she said, looking around for her shoes.

“For what,” he said with a chuckle. “Please don’t apologize.”

This was so unlike her. What had happened last night? She groaned and raised a hand to her throbbing forehead as she remembered how she was dancing. She had his hands all over him. She had even felt his…

“Do you have an erection?” she asked in horror. There was a tent-like bulge in his pants.

He pressed it down with his palm but it popped back up. “It will go away,” he said. “Eventually.”

She stood up and headed back to the mansion. He leapt up and followed her.

“It’s not that big of a deal,” he said. “Men get them in the morning all of the time.”

But it wasn’t his erection that had upset her. She had let herself get out of control. What would her mom think about that? She would be horrified.

“Just please take me home.” She was humiliated. Her office would find out about this and then the other public relations companies would too. She would be the laughing stock of the industry. All of her hard work down the drain.

She walked back onto Simple K’s property. There were people passed out everywhere. Empty beer cans were floating in the pool and there was a puddle of chunky vomit next to a passed out, topless girl. She was lying on the cement in the sun. Her breasts were going to be nice and sun burnt later.

Ariana stepped over her legs as she looked around frantically for her shoes. There was no sign of them anywhere. It didn’t matter. She just wanted to leave. Now.

“Looking for these?” Edward asked holding up her shoes. He was stepping over the garden that separated Simple K’s property from his neighbors’.

She snatched them out of his hands and slipped them on. “Thank you.”

Her head felt like it was going to explode when she bent over.

“Do you have your notebook?” he asked with a smirk.

She frowned and turned towards the house. She hadn’t taken any notes last night. She hadn’t done anything that she had come here for. Well you did make a fool of yourself. So congratulations on that.

They went to the car and she turned on the radio so they didn’t have to talk. She faced the side window and closed her eyes, mad at herself for being so weak. So reckless. For liking the feeling of waking up with Edward’s muscular arms wrapped around her.
