Chapter Seven

The lightning storm woke Yorn. He was alone in bed. Where was the male and why wasn’t he here? The door to the veranda had blown open. The curtains were billowing in the wind. Yorn jumped out of bed, determined to find his lover. He dressed quickly and rushed out into the night. Light flashed through the valley. Gage wouldn’t last long out in this storm. It wasn’t safe for anyone to be out there for any extended period of time.

Why would his lover leave him without telling him where he was going? The secrets he’d been harboring were still a mystery to Yorn. He had hoped that Gage would trust him enough to tell him what was going on and what had happened in his past. It was clear to him that there was something that had him so twisted up inside that he couldn’t tell him anything. Yorn had been certain it had a lot to do with the trafficker who had found him.

That thought had Yorn rushing through the compound to power up the ship. He took off without doing his pre-flight check. It wasn’t safe to fly, but it was better than having no cover at all. Yorn was worried for Gage. As soon as he crested the ridge and headed down through the valley toward the bright city jutting up into the sky, Yorn caught sight of Gage running through the valley. He ran as though he had to get somewhere fast. Yorn set the ship down several yards away so he could catch up.

Lightning rushed across the sky as Gage ran for something off in the distance. Confusion swam through Yorn’s eyes as he saw the lightning spiral down from the sky and into the dirt. All the air left Yorn in a great whoosh as the lighting struck the ground repeatedly as though something out of the sky had commanded it.

A rip appeared in the night and something passed through it, landing hard on the ground. It looked like a man dressed in unfamiliar clothes. Yorn watched as Gage caught up to the man, grabbing him as he fell to the ground and cradling him to his chest. Who was this man to Gage, and why was he holding him as though they were lovers? Jealously stormed through Yorn before he could stop it from happening. He caught up to Gage, looking down at him. The man in his arms looked confused and hurt.

“Gage?”

Gage looked up at him shocked to see that Yorn had followed him out into the storm. “He’s a friend from where I come from.”

The truth of it hit Yorn powerfully from his chest. Gage was not from around here. In fact, he wasn’t even from his galaxy. Yorn had heard stories from the local shepherds about men who could fall through the sky. Despite all their technology, no one in his world had been able to create the rift that would connect any of them to another world. Here, his lover had done so.
