First Things

For a wide-eyed, silent second, he stares back at me. As the second extends into eternity, I worry that maybe I've ruined it. Maybe he wants roses or professions of love and a hand-job. Maybe he's never been fucked before, and all that talk about flipping pancakes was a joke. Maybe the tornado is already here, and it's been me all along.

His Adam's apple bobs in a hard swallow. A break in the clouds lets light into the room and sets fire to the amber flecks in his eyes. I'm so not prepared for how much this will hurt if he says-

"Yes," he whispers softly, closing his eyes and leaning into my hand. "Yes, Samuel. Please. I want you inside me."

Now I'm the one swallowing hard, his words taking me by surprise and chasing all my fears away in one heart-pounding moment. Back on my knees, I guide him into a kiss that I hope can convey all the insane things I'm feeling right now. Desire and lust; joy and love.

No, I'm not just going to fuck Cody like some one-night stand. I'm going to make love to this man. I'll show him how good it can be.

"I need to go get some stuff from my bag," I mumble against his lips as we come up for air.

Panting slightly, he replies. "I have... Top drawer... On the right."

Oh thank God. Maybe he's not new to this after all. I've never been with a-

Damn.

Inside the drawer is a Walgreens bag with an unopened bottle of lube and an equally unopened box of condoms. Both of them are the best you can get, probably recommended by the pharmacist, and both of them are on a receipt time-stamped last night after dinner.

Holding up the receipt, I turn to him with one eyebrow raised. "You said you were going out for more beer."

His whole face flushes as a sheepish grin appears. "I, uh... I did, but I also..." He huffs, his hand passing through his hair as his gaze falls to his feet. "Last night, I... I thought I was seeing signals, and so I thought I oughtta be prepared in case, but you were asleep when I got back, and- ...Wait, that sounds wrong. I didn't expect anything from you, but-"

"Whoa there, cowboy," I chuckle a bit, because seeing him so hot and bothered is endearing and a little funny. It's also a tad concerning. Carrying the bag over to the bed, I kneel back between his legs so he's forced to look me in the eyes. "I wasn't asleep. I was hiding."

"Hiding? From me?"

I sigh. "From me, mostly. You weren't wrong about the signals. I was probably broadcasting in high definition that I'm attracted to you."

He snickers at that. "You were drooling a bit."

Smartass. But, at least he's smiling again. "Well, yeah. Have you seen you? You can't tell me you've not had every gay man from here to Oak Lawn pawing after you."

The blush returns. "Well, I don't exactly go looking.
