Chapter 41

“Colonel,” Ferraro offered his hand. “I never expected to be meeting you like this.”

Krieger shook Ferraro’s hand, looked at Brooks and said, “You came highly recommended for the job.”

Brooks had found out from Krieger at their meeting two days ago that large amounts of civil unrest were being planned in several cities. The civil unrest would work simultaneously with the attack on the stock market. With few other options, Brooks had suggested bringing in Ferraro and the families.

Krieger was going to need every loyal Special Forces operative he could find to pull off the mission to save the country. This meant taking Briggs and Mauricio with him, leaving the recently promoted Melissa to run surveillance operations stateside. That would leave the cities vulnerable to the globalists.

Ferraro, in his six-thousand-dollar Brioni suit and custom handmade wing-tip shoes, responded with a smile. “What job could an honest businessman like me possibly do for you, or should I say for the government?”

Krieger set the stage by saying, “I recently learned something from history… and let’s say I’m not really a fan of history repeating itself, although in this case it may be our best option.”

Ferraro waited for Krieger to elaborate.

Krieger wasn’t about to tell Ferraro that almost his entire team was being sent on another group of missions to orchestrate the largest counter coup against the globalists in history. Krieger had contemplated using the militia. That was a topic of some heated conversation that led to this decision.

Brooks, or as Krieger and Ferraro knew him, The Shadow, had pointed out that although the militia could keep the peace, the long-term effects of using them would be that the terrorists would live to fight another day. They would do a better job of hiding after learning their lesson and crawl deeper underground to multiply and resurface at another time when the country was weak; maybe with this President, or worse yet, maybe with the next, who may not have the balls to do what it would take to hold the country together.

No, Brooks had another idea. He had explained to Krieger that the Japanese had used a similar technique, as had Hitler and others throughout history. When faced with multiple fronts that would dilute their strength to a compromising degree, history is riddled with governments who have turned to the Mafia to do the dirty work.

Brooks had made the contact, then Krieger had had Ferraro brought to the base where they could talk in absolute secrecy with all recording devices turned off and with the best sound proofing and jamming devices surrounding them. This would be the only time they would talk directly. If Ferraro chose to accept this opportunity, future communications would be made by pre-determined signals that could not be traced back to anyone in the government.

Ferraro’s amenable smile didn’t fool Krieger for a minute. This was a tactful, very calculating man.

Krieger said, “Anything we discuss from here on will never be documented and will never be confirmed. This conversation never existed.
