Obviously, I knew I'd have to get Diana and the rest of them out of the dungeon as soon as possible. While I waited, I saw no harm in enjoying myself. The Golden Kingdom and Oro's palace were spectacular. At long last, to be around my own people everywhere I turned was simply splendid. The servants here knew their place, everyone was aware of and respected each other's station in the social hierarchy, and every possible whim and want was satisfied in an instant.

Feeling peckish? Food appeared. Tired? Your bed awaited with servants to fan you to sleep. Find yourself in need of a little relaxation? A long bath would be immediately drawn and filled with salts and oils to soak your cares away. Yes, the Golden Kingdom was exactly what I'd always hoped it would be.

But days into my stay in the capitol, it became evident that Oro had no intention of expediting the release of my companions. I'd made attempts at gaining an audience with him daily, often multiple times each day, but I was met with rebuffs from guards and retainers who would politely dismiss my concerns with a wave of the hand and a promise that it was Oro's top priority.

Right after all of his other top priorities, it seems.

While I'd waited, I'd been afforded near total liberty to wander and explore the castle. Lady Mala had taken me on a tour of her alcoves and secret passages and shown me her stores of historical treasures that she'd managed to save from Svarog's Naqhi.

The art and cultural pieces were breathtaking. Sculptures and paintings depicting epic scenes of King Midas' reign, portraits of our family together before my parents were killed and I was taken away. Even pieces that dated back centuries, showing the lineage through which the Golden Kingdom's crown had come. It was my life; the life of my people, and I was finally at one with it all.

Though I'd never wanted for anything in Svarcadia, there had always been a piece of myself missing; an emptiness that I couldn't fill no matter how many women I had, banquets I attended, or foolish fops I bested in duels. There was a hunger deep inside me that begged to be fed, but I'd never known what food it craved until now. It was my own history that I sought. It was the history of my people, and the culture I'd never had the privilege to know.

I'd been taken before I'd had the chance to learn how Golden Dragons lived. Now that I'd seen it, I knew it was wise of my kidnappers to ensure I didn't know what I was missing.

I'll fight tooth and nail not to lose this life. When you've finally found the missing piece of yourself that you've been searching for your whole life, you don't readily let it slip away.

Alas, after several days of waiting for Oro to grant me an audience, my patience finally wore out. I'd grown bored of waiting.
