Chapter Twelve
An alarm sounded next to me. I thumped what I hoped was the snooze button.
âFive more minutes.â Maybe then my eyes wouldnât feel crusted shut.
The alarm went off again, and it hadnât been five minutes.
I pried open an eye.
This wasnât my room.
I sat up.
This wasnât my room. Donât get me wrong: the white with touches of silver was lovely and contrasted nicely with the picture of a sunrise over a misty field that dominated the wall, but it wasnât mine.
This wasnât my shirt, either. I didnât own an oversized t-shirt sporting the clan logo.
A light knock gave me just enough time to dive under the covers before the door swung open.
Jamie peered in. âYouâre awake.â Barefoot and bare-chested, he came in with a steaming mug in his hands. âI hope tea is still your morning potion of choice.â
âUm, yes. Thanks.â I took a sip. âLast night is fuzzy.â
Enough of the memory was coming back that I remembered how Iâd ended up borrowing one of his shirts, and a pair of pants draped across the other side of the bed. We hadnât been saints, but heâd been clear. After the Witchâs Brew, there was only so much fun he was willing to indulge in until we both had clear heads.
He leaned against the door frame and crossed his arms over his chest. âHung over?
âA little.â
âIâve got more tea and a headache charm in the kitchen.â
âThank you.â I tightened my hands around the warm cup. âNext time we should do this on a weekend I donât have to work.â
âNext time? Youâre feeling presumptuous this morning.â The corner of his mouth tiled up. âIâm game.â
Lacking a dignified response, I sipped the tea.
He tipped his head toward the chair on the other side of the room. âI can put that through a quick wash and feed you before you need to head out to work.â
âUm.â
âItâs six-thirty. You should have time.â
âThanks.â
âShower is across the hall.â He pushed away from the door. âAnd Kel, I meant every word.â
The door clicked shut behind him before my brain, foggy from sleep and Witchâs Brew, could peace it together.
Then it clicked. He still loved me.
âNarzel,â I groaned.
Just what I needed. Another problem. One that walked around shirtless and made me wish I was still part of the clan.
I swore again as I gathered up the clothing and hurried to the bathroom. Maybe Iâd find answers in the shower.
