Chapter 9

“Can you prove that?” asked Deng his head spinning with this sudden declaration.

“Yes I can, I have my passport and things inside.”

“Okay go get them,” said Deng motioning with his head for the man to go back inside the shelter. The man half smiled and stiffly slipped back between the door and the wall out of sight but not sound. Deng could clearly hear the man shuffling around moaning and cursing, apparently searching for his documents. Deng was about to lose patience and call the man back out, when he heard a cheap of joy come from within, and the man’s skeletal head once more popped up through the gap between wall and door. He raised an arm to show the deep red passport of the European Union. Deng stepped forward and accepted it from him. He scanned the pages and found what he was looking for on the back page, the identification details. To his surprise, the name was correct Frances Mulholland. The man in his present condition was too disheveled and unkempt to match with the picture, but too alike to discount altogether. This really was a turn up for the books. Frances Mulholland alive and kicking … or so it seemed, so who was in the morgue?
