Trouble

Jonah yawned and forced his eyes to stay opened. The eerie quiet and darkness of the night made him extremely tired. Not that he wasn’t without the sleepy signs. He almost wanted to pull over and slap Gabe from how loud his snoring was. I mean seriously, it felt like an earthquake every time he inhaled.

Jonah sighed and wished Mark would pull over. Or was it Elise who was driving now? Rey did seem a little wobbly like Elise was driving it. At least Mark had a substitute while Jonah was stuck driving 24-7. Lucky him. He was tempted to honk the horn and wave him/her down to pull over, but he resisted the urge. It was only sleep. Nothing to fuss over.

Jonah looked at the clock: 2:56. Great. There’s another five hours of sitting behind the wheel. At least he had Rick for company.

“Right, Ricky-Dicky?” He leaned over and patted his car. He could tell Piper thought it was cute he had named his car. But the truth was this used to be his father’s car, and he had named it, not Jonah.

He fought back a groan. The memory of his parents was too painful. He never really told anyone the true story of his parents. Not even Piper. Though he almost slipped up a couple of times, he always managed to cover it with a “It’s no big deal” or “Anyway” or “Shut up.” Okay, maybe not that last one, but the other two were accurate.

Jonah peeled his eyes off the road for a second to take a peek at Piper. Boy, she was so hot while sleeping. And that thing she said earlier. What was it? “When don’t you?” Yes, that was it. After he asked “Do I look that good?” Jonah always wondered if Piper really had feelings for him. Now it felt confirmed. 100 percent. Or 90. Or 50. Whatever it was, 1 percent would be good enough for him.

Ever since Jonah laid eyes on Piper, he couldn’t stop flirting and talking to her. Sure it was in the middle of world domination by an apocalypse, but why should that cancel out love? Okay, okay. Not love. A simple crush. But it could turn out to be love.

He chuckled. What an idiot he was. How many times had Piper called him that? Jonah smiled when he recalled his first conversation he had with her.

“Yo! What’s a pretty girl like you doing over there?” he had called out. Piper looked over at the other girls in the room, assuming he was talking to one of them.

“No, you.” He pointed to her.

She looked away, obviously mortified. Or secretly overjoyed. Jonah couldn’t tell.

“What’s your name?” He leaned against the wall across from her, putting on his best bad-boy look.

“Tell me who you are first,” Piper ordered, keeping on her serious expression.

Jonah instantly liked her after that. “Jonah. Jonah Endersen.” He made a kissy face.

Piper didn’t move a facial muscle. Usually a girl would giggle pleasantly or put on a disgusted look and walk away.
