CHAPTER SEVEN

"ARE YOU SURE YOU'RE ready for this?" Lauren asks Willow as they get ready to open the door to take down Tanis.

Willow smiles, "You could say...I was created for this."

Lauren smiles and opens the door to the security room. Instead of seeing Tanis, a bloody-faced Svetlana is sitting on the desk.

"I've been waiting for you, Lauren...or should I say, Project Zero. You lied to me before. You told me you were just another test subject. You did not tell me you were Raven's favorite lab rat."

Lauren looks down in shame.

Svetlana continues, "The things they did to me. The way my brother died, it's all on your hands."

As tears start running down Lauren's face, she says, "I'm sorry for the death of your brother. I didn't have control over my powers. And I don't remember much about my time at Raven. But I know I'm not the reason for all of this. If you want to blame anyone, blame Raven, not me!"

Svetlana rises from the table. "LIES!"

She charges for Lauren with incredible speed and punches her stomach hard enough to make her fly back, crushing through the wall and falling into the debris.

Just as Lauren catches her breath, Svetlana appears in front of her. Lauren is overwhelmed by how fast she is.

Svetlana pulls Lauren's hair, lifts her off the ground, and smiles. As she gets ready to throw Lauren up against the wall, Svetlana gets pummeled by debris coming from the walls, dropping Lauren. Svetlana gets up and turns in anger to see Willow using her ability to control concrete. Svetlana tries to run for Willow but gets surrounded by a psionic barrier manifested by Lauren.

"Svetlana, it doesn't have to be this way. I- I don't want to hurt you. Please don't fight me." Lauren continues to try getting through to her.

"You will die by my hand for everything you've done!" Svetlana snarls.

Svetlana's fangs grow as her aura becomes darker. Lauren has seen this transformation before. She recalls it when she took Svetlana with her to retrieve Reyes.

Willow sees the fear in Lauren's eyes and shouts out, "Lauren, you need to power up right now! You can beat her!"

"I can't; I don't want to fight her! I'm tired of people dying!"

"You're nothing like her. We all look up to you! Remember why you fight! You are stronger not just physically but emotionally too! You can make this better!"

Lauren remembers words like these being said to her by Lucas. The hope she needed. As Svetlana prepares to strike, she's blown away by the force of Lauren's rising energy.

Willow uses the debris to avoid getting hit by force. As she lowers the stone barricade, she sees Lauren standing in a purple aura. The sight of Lauren finally ready to end this madness ignites such excitement and cheer in Willow.

Svetlana gets up and says, "So this is how it feels to fight Project Zero...."

Lauren immediately fires a psionic blast from her hand towards Svetlana, interrupting her sentence.

"My name...is Lauren!"

Svetlana snarls and rushes towards Lauren with her nails extended, aiming for her heart.
