SOPHIA WASN'T sure whether Joey was more or less of a distraction in the studio now that she'd finally bowed to her body's will. She did know that she ached for her, that she desperately wanted to hold her, wanted more than just kissing, as Joey succinctly put it.

But was this really the right place? Not the studio, obviously, but even their rooms upstairs? Should they perhaps wait? She was considering the question and wondering whether she actually could physically wait that long without exploding, when Demetria clapped her hands for attention.

“Pastry!”

One word and Sophia could feel the atmosphere on the sound-stage cool. She smiled a little. A lot of bakers, amateurs especially, worked just fine with dough but detested pastry. She, on the other hand, almost preferred it. You knew where you were with pastry, follow the recipe to a T and it could only behave in one way, there was a certainty to it that sometimes was lacking with cakes.

She glanced over at Joey who was also grinning. Mostly because they'd made a simple shortcrust pastry just a couple of nights ago and she knew that Joey would pull this off.

She waited impatiently through the usual spiel, and then got to work as soon as the buzzer sounded.

She disappeared, hands working, mind relaxing, doing what she knew how to do so well. She was interrupted only once, by a small squeal.

She looked up in time to see Victoria being led away by one of the on-set paramedics, hand wrapped in a towel and raised over her head. A cut finger, no doubt. Accidents happened, even to the best chefs. She bent her head back over her work and didn't even notice when Victoria returned, finger bandaged.
