IRSHAD AND SALMAN walked Vanya to her Jeep, where Irshad hugged her friend and kissed her on the cheek. Her eyes pooled, tears dripping down her cheek.

“Um, it’s okay, friend.” Vanya wiped a tear from Irshad’s cheek. “I’ll be careful.”

“It’s difficult to be careful around the likes of those men. It would be best if you and your husband leave town.”

“We’ll be leaving on Sunday for Moscow to pick up our babies. Until then, I’ll be extra careful. Thank you for your concern, friend.” Vanya shook Salman’s hand. “And thank you again for educating me.”

“My pleasure,” Salman said. “Don’t make yourself such a stranger. And please bring your new family to see us when you return so we can celebrate.”

“We’ll be sure to come by with the babies when we return from Russia. Bye.”

Salman said, “Assalamu alaikum.”

Vanya bowed her head. “And peace be upon you too, friend.”
