I placed my phone down on the couch and turned the volume up as Dashaun Wesley started introducing the judges. I was annoyed that during season 3, Megan Thee Stallion was replaced with Keke Palmer. I loved Meg, if I was into bitches, I’d climb that fucking tree with no hesitation.

“You watching this shit again?” Kashmere’s deep voice boomed from behind me, startling me. I should have known he was there, as soon as I got the slight tingle on my neck. I didn’t turn around or react. “Can I sit with you?”

“It’s your house Kashmere.” I sighed.

“This ain’t our house Charli?” he asked, and I shrugged, still not turning to look at him. “Come on baby, don’t do me like this. I thought we had an understanding. I changed the post nup—”

“And you still did it in the first place.” I replied. “You still tried to find a way to manipulate me into staying because you know that I would do anything to be with the people I loved and if I had a kid I’d stay in this forever because I’m not the type of person to abandon anybody. How could I be? I’ve been abandoned too many times myself to see somebody else be put in that same position.”

“Look, I keep saying it, but I felt like I didn’t have any other choice. I cannot lose you. It’s too late for that.”

“Yeah, because you love me so much, right?” I chuckled. “Kash, I can’t do this right now. I just wanted to watch tv before dinner in peace.”

“Fine.” He replied exhaling a loud breath. “I’mma go get comfortable, Eva said the food should be done in a second.”

I nodded my head without a verbal response. It wasn’t until the weight lifted off my thudding heart, did I realize he had left the room. As soon as he was gone, I placed my face in my hands and let out the few tears I was working to keep in. I cried in silence, heartbroken. What the fuck was I going to do? I knew I said before that I was going to stay but it was hard.

“Ms. Charlotte.” I heard Eva’s voice croon a few minutes later. “Dinner is ready.”

“I’ll be there in a second.” I told her again, keeping my face forward. I quickly wiped my face, thanking God I had washed the makeup off before getting in the shower.

I finally stood up and paused the tv before making my way out of the living room into the formal dining room. As I stepped into the foyer, Kashmere had made it down to the bottom of the steps. When he saw me wiping my face, he rushed over to me and wrapped his arms around me.
