Chapter 7

Heather

Silence reigned supreme in her bedroom until she was forced to open her eyes. Had he quietly gathered his clothes and left? No. He just sat there on the side of the bed staring at her as if she’d just told him she, too, was a billionaire and had also been to outer space.

“Just kidding?” she said hopefully, at an attempt to ease the sudden choking tension in the room.

“Were you?”

No.

“Yes.”

“I don’t believe you.”

She couldn’t get a read on him. Not a lip or eyebrow twitch. He just sat there, his baby blues piercing her soul and making her want to submit to him in every way. But she couldn’t, at least not in every way. He could have her body, but he’d never have her heart again.

Sitting up, she met his gaze dead-on. “So what if I’m not? A lot has changed in ten years.”

“Apparently.”

Her back went ramrod-straight from his tone. Was he judging her? If so, he could get the fuck out now. She went to open her mouth and say as much, but he was on her and she was beneath him in seconds, her arms above her head and pinned tightly beneath his one big, strong hand. He wedged a knee between her legs and pressed down against her still swollen and tender clit.
