A virgin? How could a woman as hot as her, as old as her, still be a virgin?
Rafe rolled away from Honor and sat on the edge of the bed. He reached down and got rid of the protection, dropping it in the wastebasket beside the bed. He didn’t move back to lie beside her as his mind tried to deal with the shock that had been delivered to him when he’d first thrust inside her.
“Rafe?” Her hand came to rest on his back and all he could do was sit there and stare across the room. “What’s wrong?”
There was a note in her voice, one that told him that he was in danger of hurting her if he didn’t move back toward her. This had been her first time having sex, and it had to make her feel vulnerable. With a sigh, he moved so that he was lying beside her and he pulled her to him. Her head rested on his chest, and while he never usually liked to cuddle after sex, with her it felt different. He liked the scent of her hair in his nose, liked the way her body felt against him. And it scared him.
If she’d been a woman of experience, maybe things would have been different. Maybe the wolf inside him wouldn’t be feeling so possessive. But it knew that he was the only one who’d ever touched her, the only one who’d been inside her body, and it wanted to keep it that way. But that was impossible because eventually, this thing between them would end. It had to. Honor would move on with her life and that would involve her being with someone else. She deserved to be settled, and he tamped down on the wave of possessiveness that wanted to swamp him.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
His voice was soft in the stillness of the bedroom, and her hand froze where it had been stroking over his chest. He knew that she didn’t have to guess what he was referring to.
“I didn’t think it mattered.”
He turned his head so he could look at her. Her eyes were soft, but there was a vulnerability there that told him he would need to tread carefully. He had to remember that she was inexperienced. But he couldn’t let her believe that giving him her innocence didn’t matter.
“How can you say that? Of course, it matters. This was your first time, and you should have told me. And it should have been before I brought you up here.”
“And would it have changed anything?” She sat up and looked down at him. He could see the fire in her eyes and it made him want her again, even though the sweat had barely cooled on his body from the last time. And it was too soon for that. She had to be sore from what had just happened between them. “If I had told you downstairs that I had never been with anyone, would you have tried harder to push me away?”
He didn’t know if it would have made a difference.
