“Fine,” Sean said, reaching behind him to open the door. “You

made him so miserable for so long. You have no idea how long I"ve

wanted to just fuck you up.”

They walked down the front stairs and out into the middle of the

yard. Jesse turned and raised his fists. “Bring it, then.”

“I"ve wanted to beat your ass to a pulp for all the times I"ve

listened to Jeff telling me you treated him like a worthless piece of shit,

Jesse again, hard enough to make him lose his balance.

“There are two sides to every story, and you"re just hearing the

one side,” Jesse said, and then he smiled. “You think beating up on me

is going to change all that, then go ahead and try.”

Sean lunged forward, knocked Jesse to the ground, and landed a

hard right to his jaw. “It don"t change nothing, but maybe it will beat

into your head that you"re just as much at fault as he is. You have a hell

of a nerve letting all this time pass before coming over here and trying

to get back in his life again. If you were this bothered about it, why did

you let him start staying over here in the first place?”

Jesse surged up and rolled them over so he had Sean pinned to the

ground and dug his knee into Sean"s chest. “You"re the one who"s got a

hell of a nerve, talking to me like that, boy. When I told him he could

stay here, I didn"t realize he meant to pull up stakes and move in with

you.”

Sean brought his knee up hard into Jesse"s gut and reversed their

positions. “What"s wrong with him moving in here with me? I"m taking

the responsibility with him that you never did. I took him to a doctor,

got his dyslexia diagnosed, got him the help he needed to get on the

right path. Way I see it, I"ve already done a lot more for him than you

ever did.”

Jesse brought up his knee, but Sean blocked it. “I can"t change

what"s in the past,” Jesse said with a grunt. “I can only admit that I
