Samantha stared at him, unable to move.

“Do you hear me?” he asked. “I love you.” He moved towards Samantha, but she flinched and backed away, her mind full of conflicting thoughts. She had never seen Logan more sincere.

“What do I have to do?” he asked softly, his eyes imploring her. “Beg? I’ll beg for you, Sam.” Horrified, Samantha watched as Logan dropped to his knees.

“Get up,” Samantha said dismayed, unable to handle seeing powerful, dominating Logan on his hands and knees.

“Please,” he pleaded, “Believe me.”

The sight was so pitiful that Samantha rushed to Logan and grasped his thick arms, trying to pull him up.

“Please, Logan, get up,” she begged.

“Not until you say you believe me.”

“Okay, okay, I believe you,” she said quickly. Logan straightened up immediately, standing to face her. Tears filled Samantha’s eyes and she rushed out of the bathroom and onto the back porch, sinking in a chair as she buried her head in her hands.

“Sam?” Logan asked gently, grabbing a towel and wrapping it around his waist as he came out and sat next to her.

Samantha’s body wracked with sobs and she shook her head at him as he put his arm around her. Samantha leaned into towards his warm and strong chest as she let Logan hold her tightly.

“I’m sorry – I didn’t believe you,” she choked, realizing now that Logan was telling the truth.

“I know it looked bad,” he soothed.

“I just thought for sure this was too good to be true. I couldn’t understand why you were interested in me!” she wailed, cringing at how pathetic she sounded.

“You silly, silly girl,” he said quietly. “You are the most interesting, beautiful, funny, down-to-earth woman that I know. I want to be a better person around you, and I don’t feel that you’re with me just for my money.”

“I don’t give a crap about your money,” she sniffed indignantly.

“I know,” he smiled.

“I still have some questions,” she said, wiping at her nose with the back of her hand.

“Okay. Do you want to get dressed first?” Logan asked gently.

“No,” she said stubbornly.

Logan chuckled. “Okay, ask me now.”

“What was her name?”

“Arabella.”

“When did you date her?” she knew she sounded insecure but she needed her questions answered before she could move forward, and she knew in her heart that she did wanted to move forward with Logan.

“I met her three years ago on my first business trip to Italy. She was originally affiliated with the Italian company I was doing business with.” Logan waited for Samantha to ask another question, but she remained silent, so Logan continued.

“We started a casual romance that only occurred on my trips to Italy. I visited maybe eight times over the past three years. We always agreed that things were to be casual.” Logan sighed, clearly unhappy to talk about his past. “I hadn’t been to Italy in six months and besides a random text, Arabella and I did not keep in touch. She left the company that I had partnered with, and even though we kept things casual, I was relieved she didn’t know I was coming to Italy.
