Chapter Seventeen- Rushed Plans

At first the irritating whistle and hum of Scott woke me, but it didn’t at the same time. I was at an in-between conscious state. How long had I been out for? I panicked as I realized what that ‘inbetween’ state was. I was already familiar with this sensation. My consciousness banged up against Misfeata’s but it was already too late. What had happened? When had she possessed my body? Misfeata now walked on the deck looking between the slow motion waves of the river and the moonlight. I felt strangled and like I was suffocating. When had she taken over my body? How had I not known? For how long had I blacked out?

“Karla,” Paul’s voice ventured behind me. My eyes trailed over Paige who was situated at the tip of the boat, well balanced and poised as she sat on the edge. With a sigh of agitation Misfeata spun. I realized she was still trying to imitate me.

“Yes Paul,” she said in a sweet tone with eyelids battered. It was an exaggeration of a doting character and it was insulting that she thought I acted in such a way.

“You really should eat, it’s been two days since we’ve been on ship. Please try to eat,” he said offering a bowl of something that upset Misfeata’s sensitive nose. She avoided scrunching it up in distaste. Two days? I have been unconscious for two days? I slammed hard against her consciousness, trying to grasp the control of my own body. It felt as if Misfeata simply shrugged me off.

“I will later, okay. Go inside I’ve gotta talk to Paige for a little while, mmhmmm k?” she dipped her head to the side in a sweet manner. Paul watched her for a moment. I hoped that he knew it wasn’t me, she didn’t even sound like me, but with my tone and face how could anyone differentiate between us?

Misfeata turned around irritated. Gahhh, stupid boy! She hissed internally.

“Hey Karlz,” Paul said forcing Misfeata to spin again. She made sure to keep her distance.

“What?” Her tone was flat and it was apparent she couldn’t avoid letting out her irritation.

“Have you hurt your back or something?” He asked worried. Misfeata slightly crinkled her face, unsure as to why he would ask such a thing.

“No I feel perfectly fine, why?” She asked trying to speak in the tone and manner I would. This time she had actually began to imitate me very well.

“Oh nothing. It’s just you seem to be walking a lot stiffer than usual.”

Stupid boy doesn’t even know the difference between a stiff back and good posture, Misfeata snarled again internally.

“I’m fine, but thank you for being worried,” she toyed with a flattering smile. “Gotta go now.” She said and walked away. She was relieved that Paul had finally left her alone.

I slammed myself against her again. My impact affected her next wobbled step as she went to clutch her head but hesitated. She slammed back into me, almost completely wiping me out of consciousness again.
