Who Else Want Some?

Two days went by and spring break was finally over, and an influx of students appeared everywhere. Some students were happy to be back on campus, and others weren’t. Maria called me and told me that she was back and to meet her in the lobby of her dorm. I got there before she came down.

When she showed up a couple of minutes later, I stood up and gave her a tight hug, and then we sat down next to each other.

“So, tell me what’s going on?” She didn’t hold back. She wanted to get straight to the point.

“Where would you like me to start?” I asked, because I had a boatload of shit to tell her.

“How are you feeling now that Gia has passed away?”

“I feel empty. I feel sadness. I wish that I could’ve seen her or talked to her before she did what she did.”

“You do know that it’s not your fault, right?”

“Yes, I know that. But then something in the back of my head tells me that it is,” I began to explain as my eyes started getting watery. I held my head back so the tears wouldn’t fall, but my teardrops were too heavy.

Maria grabbed my hand and squeezed it lightly, and then she rubbed my back in a circular motion. This was her way of telling me that everything was going to be all right. “It’s okay to cry,” she insisted. “Have her parents reached back out to you yet? Maybe apologized for blaming you for her death?”

“No. But her brother told me that he knew that I didn’t cause it. He even told me that Gia loved me like a sister,” I replied, wiping away the tears from my face.

“See, that was nice. And how did that make you feel?”

“It made me feel good that someone in her family knew the truth,” I said as I continued to dry the tears from my cheeks.

“Good. I’m glad he did that for you. Or else you’d be walking around here like a zombie, trying to cope with your loss,” she added. “Has the dean talked to you yet?”

“No. She was on vacation with her family, but since the break is over, I’m sure she gonna call me into her office.”

“Well, when she does, be straight with her.”

“What? And tell her all the things that really happened in my room?”

“Yes, I don’t see why not,” Maria said candidly. But Maria lived in a fantasy world. She walked around with a picture in her mind of how everyone in the world should love one another; if you do someone wrong, apologize immediately; if you see someone hungry, feed them. I mean, I could go on and on, but I’m not that person. I’m vindictive. If you mess with me, you pay for it either now or later. Take your pick. And as for giving the dean a whole confession session, that wasn’t gonna happen. No way, no how!

“I’m not at that stage in my life that I could be straight up with everyone.
