Chapter 5. Strip Search
Shrewsbury had a busy day planned.
As part of his role as ACC he was required to attend the strategy meeting, a four hour long bore fest that was critical to the operation of the force. In his opinion it was all about ensuring they met targets and ticked boxes and he was sure the public would be up in arms if they knew.
Once he had gotten that out of the way he had a couple of far more pleasurable jobs to do. The first one was to set a foot soldier loose on Harland. He would take a great deal of satisfaction in ensuring that pain in the arse was taken out of commission once and for all. The second job was to set Janet her first task, and he knew he was really going to enjoy that part of the day!
He had given a great deal of thought to who he was going to task with dealing with Harland. There were a couple of new recruits that he was sure would be up for the job, but he wanted to ensure there were no mistakes, so he decided on one of the older hands.
A spiteful young upstart named Jack Keavell, who had been under his command for coming on three years now, was well versed in the demands of the âGroupâ. He had already carried out three fairly major jobs including planting evidence, threats and intimidation and ABH, and was ripe for promotion to the big league.
He sent Keavell a message using his âburnerâ phone, a phone that couldnât be traced back to him, arranging a meeting for that afternoon. He would give him the details and set the timetable, it needed to be done quickly, but it would take a little time to set up, no one must suspect foul play.
With the fist activity underway he turned his attention to the lovely Janet. He was going to use Janet to snoop on John Charles, find out what he knew and how deep he was in with Harland.
But it was no fun just handing her the assignment, he was going to make sure he enjoyed the process.
He sent her a message arranging a meeting for the end of her shift, that way she would have plenty of time to think about it, he always thought that was a good tactic. It built the tension nicely.
Now all he had to do was get through the boring mundane day to day elements of the job, until it was time to have some fun!
At 2pm Jack Keavell walked into the Tesco Extra on Brunton Lane, near Kingston Park. He was becoming used to meeting in strange places to get his instructions, but he understood the reasons why, they werenât exactly legal activities even if they were the police. He walked to the back of the store, into the clothing department and started to browse through the t shirts. After a few minutes he saw the Boss approach from the grocery section, he was carrying a basket with a few items already in it.
