Chapter 8

“Umm Kenni where do you think you goin?” questioned Kenni's mother Beaunna watching her daughter slide out of one outfit to put on another and criticize it in the mirror.

Kenni smiled at her mother through the mirror, “Ronnie's peoples havin a BBQ.”

Beaunna sat on her daughter’s bed smiling at her, “And what does that mean?” she smirked.

Kenni stomped her foot smiling, “Ma, stop playin!”

Beaunna gave her a hard stare, “That’s not how you ask.”

Kenni rolled her eyes, “Ma, can I go to Ronnie’s people barbecue?” Kenni inquired sweetly.

Beaunna touched a light skin finger to her high cheekbones pretending to think on it, “Well, I guess. And when do I get to meet Mr. Ronnie? I see he got you cheesin and a sparkle in yo eye.”

Kenni grinned at her mother’s words. She looked up at her mother through the mirror, “You will one day.”

Beaunna stood, “Wear that outfit,” she told her daughter standing behind her in the mirror. “And do yo hair like this,” she weaved her fingers though her hair to show Kenni the style she was talking about.

Kenni looked at herself in the mirror picturing the outfit and design, “Ok ma. Will you do my hair though?”

Beaunna smiled at her daughter, “Of course I will baby. You go hop in the shower start getting ready. Call me when you ready for me to do yo hair.”

Kenni smiled, “Ok ma.”

“Damn baby. Look at you,” said Ronnie hopping out of her truck to open the door for Kenni.

“We might have to make a pit stop baby. I need to eat you now you look so good,” Ronnie told her kissing her.

Kenni laughed, “Baby you silly,” she pulled down the mirror. “My hair look OK baby my mama did it?”

“Yeah baby. It’s cool. It make you look older and sexier than you already is,” she told her climbing into the truck.

Kenni grinned and drew Ronnie into a kiss before they took off, “I ain't forgot either baby.”

Ronnie glanced at her but before she could say anything Kenni's cell phone went off. Kenni checked the caller id and pressed the ignore button.

“Who was that?” Ronnie inquired steering the truck with one hand as she drove adjusting her seat back how she liked it.

Kenni shrugged her shoulders, “I don't know my phone been ringin off tha hook since I got out the shower but it’s all private calls.”

Ronnie rubbed her chin, “See look dats what you get fa cheatin on me. You and Layla-” Kenni broke the rest of Ronnie's sentence up by pushing her.

“Don't play like that I ain't cheatin on you!” Kenni said with her arms folded across her chest.

Ronnie looked at her quizzically. She laughed nervously, “Baby, I was jus playin. It’s a joke.”

Kenni sucked her teeth and rolled her eyes, “Well I ain't think it was funny.”

Ronnie exhaled, “Whatever,” she muttered under her breath.

Twenty minutes of silence passed until Ronnie parked the truck and locked her truck doors, “Look at me,” she said to Kenni and when Kenni looked her way she replied with, “Give me a kiss.
