Chapter Six
One week later
Olivia finished her lunch just as the door to the flower shop opened. Linda let out an angry shout before coming to the back.
“Your brother is out there,” she said. Her face was a dark shade of red, and Olivia wished she wasn’t at work that day. It was Saturday, and for the last week since being with Archer and Daniel, it had been the most amazing week of her life. They were both caring, loving men, and they made her feel special. Both men had visited her apartment, and had explained to her when she asked why they were camping at her apartment, why they weren’t at their home. Daniel and Archer wanted her to be comfortable with them, and believed she wouldn’t be if they were to go back to their home. They were giving her a chance to back away from them, which she found to be incredibly sweet. Wiping her lips on her napkin, she stood up.
“Do you want me to get rid of him?” Linda asked.
“No, it’s okay. I’m sure he’s just here to moan about something.” She offered her boss and friend a smile before going to the main shop. “What’s up, Carl?”
“I can’t believe you work here. You wouldn’t have to work if you’d do as you’re told and marry someone.”
“You mean marry someone you wanted me to. I don’t want to marry anyone. I want to marry for love.” It was a constantly sore subject between the two of them, really the three of them. Her father had his opinion on the matter as well. She imagined it was only because she sucked as an actress that they didn’t push her. Unlike her father, mother, and brother, she couldn’t pretend that she was happy. It was one of the reasons why she’d been kept out of the limelight. She hated pretending.
“Love, it’s a stupid word. No one marries for love.” Carl crushed a rose in his hand, and Olivia felt tears come to her eyes. He was always destroying things of beauty.
“You will pay for that, young man,” Linda said, crossing her arms over her chest.
“I can have this store if I want to. Don’t think to threaten me. You’re nothing but a lowlife whore.”
Olivia gasped and went to apologize to her friend. Linda smiled.
“I’m sure the press would love to see that. You better think before you speak, boy. I’ve got cameras all around this place, and it has sound. I may be a whore, but I know what I’m dealing with when it comes to boys like you.”
Carl went bright red.
“Get out of my shop, threaten me again, and I will make sure it’s in the news within the hour. I may be a lowlife, but I’ve got contacts in high places.”
“You can’t talk to me like that.”
Olivia had had enough. Urging Carl out of the shop, Olivia sent Linda an apology. This was one of the reasons why she hated being around her brother.
“You will quit that job this instant.
