Chapter 9

Bad Uncle

She woke up feeling awful. Her eyes felt like they were glued shut and she ached everywhere. The last thing she could remember was Cam making love to her. Surely that couldn’t result in this? The feeling was slowly coming back to parts of her body. Her hands moved below her feeling some sort of platform below her. Was it made out of wood with a flat piece of fabric on top?

Her neck felt as if a heavy weight was around it. Dear goddess, was this a nightmare she would wake from? If so it seemed to go on and on. Her sense of smell had returned and she wished it hadn’t. It reeked here, wherever here was. Reaching out, she felt metal bars. What occurred to her was she had been captured.

If she had, they had taken her from her bed at the castle. How had they managed to infiltrate their base of operations? Was anyone else in here with her? She managed to crack open her eyes, but just a little bit and she could see nothing but a sliver of light.

Now she tried to sit up. It was not an easy process. Eventually she managed but she felt as if she might hurl. Had they drugged her? There was a presence she could sense but neither see or hear not far from her. Was it friend or foe? She needed to find out.

“Who is there?” She asked. There was no answer right away.

“Hello, Beautiful.” A sneering voice said. “Sorry for your less than good condition. The old witch must have used a spell to make you easier to handle. You just can’t get good help these days.” He chuckled.

“Who are you?”

“I believe you’ve probably guessed. I’m Darby’s uncle, Seth.”

“Why would you pick me to capture?”

“Why not you? I want to know what you are. I’ve heard rumors that your camp has exotics and I want to see if it’s true. What are you? You’ll tell me eventually. No point in torturing you now when you already feel awful, but I’ll be back. Have no doubts I’ll find out all your secrets then. Someone so pretty and delicate, you’ll never stand up to torture.”

“They’ll come here for me. You won’t get away with this.” She insisted.

“You’d be surprised what I can get away with. Say hello to the witch in the cell next to you. She’s been here almost a month and they’ve not even noticed she’s gone. They may see you’re gone, but they’ll have no idea where you went or who took you. You’re mine, my pretty and you’re not going anywhere.” He chuckled as he moved away and she heard his footsteps echo down the hall.

Diamond felt like crying but she refused to give in. “Who is there?” She asked.

“I’m Elsbeth.” A soft voice said.

“You are one of our witches?”

“I was, but I don’t feel like myself anymore. This isn’t a nice place to be. The guards taunt you and grab you. We both have a collar on that separates us from our magic.
