CHAPTER 37

Bianca

Drake’s soft voice coming from the bathroom as he spoke to someone on the phone woke me. I sat up, listening.

“I want protection. I’ll fucking shoot my way out if you guys think about fucking with me.”

My heart jumped into my throat, and I slid out of bed and put my bra and panties on. I stood outside the bathroom door, knowing I shouldn’t be listening to his conversation but unable to help myself.

“Fine. Give me thirty minutes. See you soon.” He pulled the door open and stared down at me. “Malen'koye solnyshko.”

“What’s going on?” I asked, fear welling inside of me. We’d had a good night. He’d held me through the entire night. Even through my bad dreams. Looking up at him, I could see the dark circles rimming his eyes and the worry on his face.

“Come here.” His gaze skirted over my half-naked body before he took my hand and led me to the bed and sat me down. He kneeled in front of me and cradled my cheek.

“You’re scaring me,” I said.

“I’m sorry. It’s not my intention.” He studied me for a moment before he spoke. “Last night meant everything to me, Bianca.”

“OK. You’re really scaring me now.”

“I’m letting you go.”

I blinked at him. “What?”

“I took you from Fallon. He doesn’t know it. I suspect he does now if he’s woken up.”

My guts tightened as I stared back at him.

“What? Why?”

He licked his lips. “Because he ran out of time.”

“Drake. . .”

“Dominic never stopped looking for you.”

I gaped at him, confused. “What?”

“When Tate took you. Dom did everything in his power to find you short of setting the world on fire. Vincent and Levin were at his side.”

My voice shook as tears sprung to my eyes. “What?”

He tucked a piece of hair behind my ears. “You were hurt so badly. Fallon lost it when we found you. He was on the outs with the kings. He decided in that moment that he was going to save you from this life. So he took you. We-we faked your death.”

All the blood seemed to rush from my head as I absorbed his words.

“We set the house on fire. Liam had a body. A female who looked like you. We burned her in the house. We put your jewelry and clothes on her. We let the kings think you were dead. They buried you. Dom’s father annulled your marriage because I guess he didn’t believe you were dead and wanted to jab at Dom again, so that part was true in a sense. But the kings don’t know you’re alive.”

My jaw trembled as I stared at him.

“Stefan made the stipulation that Fallon had to tell you the truth and let you choose the life you wanted rather than Fallon just taking it from you without you getting a choice. I didn’t want any of this shit for you. In fact, when we rescued you, I tried to take you back to Bolten but Fallon forbid it. So that’s how we got here.
