After getting to Bex’s apartment, I was dumped on her bed. Bex was a sweetheart. She cleaned the cuts and scrapes on my face before they helped remove my t-shirt. She wrapped some bandages around my ribs after Logan gave me a quick examination. He didn’t think they were broken but they were definitely bruised.

I lay there, trying to take small breaths before their whispers from the doorway started.

“Is he going to be okay?” Bex asked. She didn’t try and hide the worry in her tone. She wasn’t stupid. She knew an ass-kicking when she saw one.

“Yeah, he’ll be fine,” Logan replied. “He’s just going to have to take it easy.”

His phone began ringing before he stepped away.

Minutes later, he was back, sounding pissed off. “I have to go. There’s a problem I need to sort out.”

“Problem?” Bex asked, her voice fading away as she walked him out.

I stared at the wall, feeling numb.

How the hell was I going to get out of this?

More importantly, how the hell was I going to keep these bruises from Sammy?
