Matt didn’t want to sit at Laura’s table. Just the sight of her reminded him of the kiss they’d shared last night, and he sure didn’t want to be reminded of that. But with Katy sitting there beaming at them both with that I-know-your-secret look on her face, how was he going to think of anything else?

This was ridiculous. Even for the sake of the children, he didn’t see how he could go on with this charade much longer.

But every time he looked at Laura, he thought about how sweet her lips had felt beneath his... how quietly she’d stood there in his arms...how beautiful she’d looked—

“Matt! Do you plan to eat or just sit there staring at Laura? The waitress would like your order.”

Matt felt like an idiot. “Burger and fries,” he said quickly. “And a tall glass of iced tea.”

“Got it, Prince Charming.” The waitress winked and then sashayed away.

And everybody at the small table just sat there, waiting for who-knew-what to happen.
