Chapter Sixteen

Lucian closed the door behind us. He wrapped his arms around my waist. Pulling me against his body. When I tried to look at him, he tucked my head against his chest. Moving his hand in a circle in the middle of my back. It made me feel oddly safe to be like this with him. His chest rumbled. It was almost like a cat’s purr. I shifted so that my ear was against his chest. Closing my eyes, I let myself relax against him.

It was okay if it was only for a moment, right?

“William isn’t the youngest, but he’s still figuring things out. Please forgive him.” Lucian said, kissing the top of my head.

I nodded. What else was I supposed to do?

How was I supposed to be mad at him?

I was forced into this situation with them to protect myself and my sister. It wasn’t like I had sought them out. I hadn’t known that dragons were real and even if I had, I very much doubted that I would have gone looking for them.

Maybe when I was younger, but now. Now I had other responsibilities.

His hand moved to the side of my neck, brushing against the bite mark that showed the others that I was his. I shivered when he pushed my hair over my shoulder. Guiding my face up so that he could look me in the eye. “William will come around.”

Was he telling me that he would or ordering me to change his brother’s mind?

The fire was still going and it reflected off of Lucian’s dark eyes. He leaned close to me, pressing his lips against mine. The kiss started gently with the press of his firm lips against mine. Slowly, it grew heated.

I parted my lips and his tongue moved into my mouth. Moving along my teeth, tasting every part of me. He tasted of the spices that were on the meat and beer. It was familiar and made me relax even more.

Closing my eyes, I gave myself into kissing him. Bringing my hands up, I undid the buttons of his shirt. Not breaking the kiss, I pushed the material off of his shoulders. Letting it fall to the floor. I trailed my fingers over his chest, tracing the thin scars with my fingertips.

Lucian shivered at my touch. He brought his hands up. Gripping the shirt that I was wearing in both hands. He gave it a sharp tug and the small white buttons skidded across the floor.

The kiss grew more heated and he pulled back, letting me catch my breath. “I like it when you touch me, little bird.”

He pushed the shirt off of my shoulders, and I opened my eyes. Watching the way his body shook as he tried to hold himself still. Dragging my nails over his nipples, I watched him suck in a shuddering breath. He closed his eyes, his fingers flexing into the material on my skirt.

For a moment, I was worried that he was going to rip it off me like he had the shirt.
