There were two people Tyson could go to to talk all this through. The first was Jenny, but facing her when his head wasn't on right just wasn't smart. In his state of mind she could convince him to do pretty much anything. So that left Owen, but he was more than Tyson's friend, he was also alpha. Tyson risked Jenny's life if he went to Owen and he acted as alpha and not his friend and brother. But Tyson had no choice. He needed to lay everything out.
It was ultimately Owen who Tyson trusted. Yes, he had to think of the whole pack when it came to a threat such as Canidae but he believed that Owen would allow Tyson to make up his mind before he acted as Alpha. He hoped so at least.
Make up my mind. Hah! You get to betray the pack or your sister. Choose wisely young grasshopper. This isn't a Choose Your Own Adventure book. If you pick wrong and die on page twelve there is no flipping back pages.
He hadn't called before going over. If he didn't go straight away he'd most likely not do it at all. Owen's house was also the pack house. It was always open to any wolf in the pack in need of a place to go. Owen occupied the third floor. The second contained spare bedrooms. The first was a kitchen and a very large and open space for mingling, reading, movies, and when they cleared away the furniture, they could have tables brought in for a pack feast. The place was the epitome of home to many of the wolves, including Tyson. He had grown up there. His bedroom had been between Owen and Jenny on the second floor. The mere sight of it settled his nerves.
There were only a handful of people milling about. No one paid any attention to Tyson as he ran up the stairs two at a time. He was an all too common sight there. Owen's floor was off limits to pack, Tyson, Jenny and Lee withstanding. He had implemented the rule a year after he had taken the position after his father died. All hours of the night had been fair game for wolves to wander up and bug him about absolutely everything.
There were a set of double doors at the top of the stairs. Tyson entered his code into the keypad and the door unlocked. Inside, he immediately regretted not calling ahead.
"God Lee, please, not this again!" Owen yelled. "How many times do I have to tell you that I don't care if you can't get pregnant?"
Tyson really didn't need to hear this argument.
"But you do! I see the way you look at children and then over at me. Your face falls when you remember who you are with and the limits that I have. I can't give you that and I can't bear to see that look on your face." Lee's voice was broken but resolved. Their problems were different but he could respect her sorrow.
