âYou came, Kamikoshi-san. Yippee!â
I donât see what there is to âyippeeâ about, I thought as I looked through the glass at Runa Urumi.
We were in a room in DS Researchâs medical ward that was brightly lit with fluorescent lights. It had been specially soundproofed, and Runa Urumi was smiling as she held a little whiteboard for writing messages to people outside.
It was just me and Toriko facing her on the other side of the thick acrylic glass. Migiwa was in another room, watching through security cameras.
Runa waved at Toriko who was standing beside me. It might seem like she was being polite, but you could tell that she was treating us like idiots. She wrote something on her whiteboard, then turned it so we could see.
âWhat brings you here today?â
I turned on the mic. âCan we come in?â I asked.
I could tell the answer even before I heard her surprised, âHuh?â There was no need to wait, so I pressed my hand against the fingerprint scanner on the door. When we came to check on the medical ward after T-sanâs attack, theyâd registered our prints so weâd be able to open the door too. The door opened with a slight gust of air as the seal broke, and then we went inside.
The door closed behind us. Runa still looked nonplussed. âWait, am I being released?â
It was a question said as a joke, but when we didnât laugh, her expression grew serious.
âWhat is this, out of nowhere? Youâre scaring me here. I mean, the way youâre acting, youâre either here to execute me, or release me... One of the two, right?â
âWe came in because itâs annoying waiting for you to write,â I said.
âWhat, what, what? This is scary.â
âThereâs something we want to talk to you about. Sit down.â
âWh-What are you going to do?â
âWe donât have our guns. See? Weâre just going to talk.â
Finally noticing we were empty-handed, Runa sat down on the bed, a look of suspicion on her face. We were still standing. âYou can use the chair over there, Kamikoshi-san. Thereâs only one, so Toriko-san will have to stand. Sorry.â
Toriko didnât move. She didnât bite at Runaâs little provocations, just staying silent. Even Runa had to be a little unnerved by that. When Toriko just looked down at you, silent and expressionless, she was really intimidating. I knew from repeated firsthand experience.
âWhat do you want to talk about...?â
âRuna, how do you feel about Satsuki Uruma?â I cut to the chase. Runa gave me a goofy grin.
âOh, gosh. What are you asking me? You know I just worship her. Iâm so touched that they left these stigmata on my adorable face, andââ
âEnough of that,â I cut off the stream of drivel coming out of Runaâs mouth. âI know youâre pissed that she killed your mom. No need to act cute for our sake.â
The expression vanished from her face. Iâd been half guessing, but it looked like Iâd hit the mark. âCould you not talk like you understand?â
âSorry, but Iâm not able to act considerate.
