Chapter 4

As her three-day limit got closer to the end, Fi became more and more frantic to discover the truth. She and Hugh had returned again and again to Elizabeth’s tower prison to search for her journal. They both had the strongest suspicion she may have known something about the curse, possibly something Gunna had said while casting it. Fi had avoided her parents, and scoured as many of Mirkheath’s nooks and crannies as she could find. Hugh and she had gone through all the documents they could retrieve in other parts of the manor, to no avail.

Between each foray into the secrets of Mirkheath manor, they had returned to her chamber. Although Fi needed rest, Hugh, being a ghost, did not. Sometimes they would lie on her bed and talk and at others Hugh would take delight in giving Fi pleasure. He never suggested she come to his garden with him, but she knew he wanted her to. For some reason Fi knew that if she were not meant to be with Hugh forever, being so intimate with him would truly ruin her for any other man. Not just because she would be surrendering her virginity. She might try to deny it, but against her better judgment and the curse’s dictates, Fi was falling in love with a ghost. Hugh touched something deep within her, until her only thoughts became consumed with freeing him from the curse. Her own entrapment by the curse became secondary in her mind and heart.

Fi gazed down upon Hugh’s bent head as he suckled her breasts. She did wish he had his earthly body so she could stroke his hair, do the things to him he did to her. That she could feel every stroke of his tongue against the ever-responding sensitivity of her skin still amazed her. Her breasts swelled in response to his gentle kneading. A sharp pleasurable pain shot through her body in response to his twirling her nipples between his thumb and forefingers.

“Hugh?” she whispered softly.

He continued sucking her nipple a moment longer, obviously loath to stop then he raised his head to look at her. “Aye, sweeting?”

“What shall we do now? We’ve looked almost everywhere in the Manor. And…and…”

“And what, Fi?” Hugh’s voice sounded sharp.

Could he sense what she would say next?

“Tomorrow, our guests arrive.” Fi felt vulnerable, and pulled her chamber robe, which Hugh had taken great pleasure in discarding earlier, to cover herself.

Hugh’s eyes narrowed. “What guests?” She could tell just the thought of people invading his territory tweaked his temper.

She really didn’t want to tell him the rest, but after tomorrow, he’d find out the truth. “My parents are inviting guests. Some…will…be…young men.”

“Men?”

Fi turned on her side, facing away from him. She felt the pressure of his form against her backside, and then heard the rumble of his question against the sensitive whorls of her ears. “Are these men to be here for you?”

Silently, she nodded and then gasped as Hugh reached into her robe to grab her breast in a strong grip.
