Chapter Twelve

Harry

The second Santa Fe show was as successful as the first. Rudy was great, and while he was still really nervous, he did a good job. He even started practicing on other songs so that he could be on stage more.

I was in heaven. I had the omega I loved by my side, and he was finally open and affectionate to me. Once I’d claimed him, he was all in. We couldn’t keep our hands off each other, and the other band members started teasing us. At first, Bain seemed thrown by our new relationship, but gradually he relaxed when he saw we weren’t letting it affect our job.

We flew into Phoenix, Arizona for the next two concerts, and Mason met us at our gate. He’d flown in from Poppy Field earlier in the day, leaving Charlotte with his parents. Mason kissed Bain as if they’d been apart two weeks instead of two days. It was endearing to see how tender Bain was with Mason. He didn’t show his softer side that often, but he was always sweet with Mason.

“Bain told me the news,” Mason approached Rudy, and he threw his arm around his friend’s shoulders. “I couldn’t believe my ears.”

Rudy’s cheeks were tinted pink. “Harry was too charming to resist.”

“I didn’t think you’d ever wake up and see how great Harry is.” Mason laughed. “About time you pulled your head out of your ass.”

“Hey.” Rudy scowled.

“I’m serious. I was afraid you were going to break Harry’s heart again.”

I hoisted my bass case higher on my shoulder, feeling embarrassed at how frank Mason was being. “We should probably head over to the hotel.”

Mason studied me. “Uh, yeah. That’s true.” He let go of his friend, and went over to Bain to figure out the ride situation.

I met Rudy’s curious gaze, and shrugged. I didn’t like the idea Rudy might pity me because of how things had gone the first time around. I wanted him to love and respect me now, not be thinking back over how lovesick I might have been back then.

Bain led us to the area where the shuttle was waiting, and we piled into the van. Bain had booked us into the Hyatt Regency, which was very close to our music venue, The Van Buren. Rudy and I each had our own rooms, but Rudy brought his stuff to mine since neither of us wanted to sleep apart. We managed a quick dinner before heading over the The Van Buren for a run through for tomorrow night’s show. I noticed Rudy didn’t eat much, and was a little worried he still seemed to be having stomach issues. But he kept insisting he was fine, and didn’t want to bother seeing a doctor.

When we got back to the hotel, we joined Mason and Bain in the hotel bar. Rudy seemed to take being in a bar in stride, and his eyes didn’t follow the trays of booze like in the past. He sipped his club soda as our legs intertwined under the table.
