He had never been more happy than in the few hours in which he had claimed Nolan and had confessed to him that he loved him. He still couldn’t believe that Nolan had told him he loved him too. He had thought it would take his mate a bit longer to develop feelings for him deeper than lust and affection.

The phone call to Gregory had ruined an otherwise perfect day. Yeah, the man used to be his best friend and his first crush, but thirty years had passed. Did Gregory really think Casey would go back with him to the Orston pride? Even if he hadn’t met Nolan, Casey wouldn’t have gone back. Dominic’s pride had been his home and his family for the past fifteen years, and he had no intention of uprooting his life for someone he didn’t know anymore and a place he never wanted to see again.

Gregory might not be responsible for what had happened to Casey’s parents, but Casey couldn’t bear to see that place again. He probably would go back to Orston to meet his mother’s siblings, but there was no way he was setting foot in that house. He would stay in a hotel or something. He’d rather not see his uncle and his aunt ever again, as much as it pained him. They were the only link with his mother he had.

As soon as Gregory had hung up the phone, Casey and Nolan dressed and nearly run to Dominic’s office. The Alpha was on the phone with Gregory when they stepped in, the cheetah asking for permission to stay in Dominic’s territory for more than a few hours and, most importantly, to be received in the mansion, since it was where Casey lived. Casey wasn’t sure he wanted to meet the man in his home, but at least in the mansion he would have the help of his family and his Alpha if something happened.

“What are you going to do, Casey?”

Casey looked at Dominic. He owed his life to the man, and he would never be able to repay that. “I’ll tell him that I’m happy to see he’s fine after all these years, but that I’m not leaving Whitedell. Honestly, I still don’t understand why he’s doing this.” Casey shrugged. “Anyway, my life is here, has been here for the past fifteen years. I’m not giving up my family, my home and my job for someone I once knew.” Casey’s job might not be much since he was only a mechanic, but he loved what he did. He knew he could easily find work elsewhere, but here he worked for a fellow pride member who understood Casey’s needs. That was why he’d managed to get a whole week of holiday to be with Nolan and meet his mate’s parents. Dominic, too, had been understanding, so Casey had a week off patrol duty as well.
