Alfheim

Alfheim (Old Norse Álfheimr) is the homeland of the light elves. It is situated next to Asgard. The elves are depicted as being luminous and “more beautiful than the sun.” They are regarded as the “guardian angels.” Freyr, the Vanir god, is believed to be Alfheim’s leader.

The relation of the light elves with humans is, at times, dubious. Often, elves bring about illnesses to humans, but they also possess the magical ability to cure these ailments. Their motivation to cure is especially heightened if they are presented with a certain kind of sacrifice. The interbreeding of elves and humans is possible and they can create half-elfin, half-human children, who have the appearance of human beings, but with amazing magical powers.
