Eating well

As well as getting a good night’s sleep it’s important to make sure that you’re eating a balanced diet with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. This might seem like another eye rolling nag to have at someone when they’re feeling overwhelmed by emotions, but when we are stressed out this can mean we forget about healthy eating, eat more junk and sugar to try to soothe our feelings, or because we feel yuck we stop eating at regular meal times. This is a problem because it creates and affects all sorts of feelings and sensations in our bodies. If we are not eating regularly, or not eating the right foods, then sudden surges and drops in our blood sugar can mean we do not feel OK in our body at all. We can lack energy or feel a bit giddy or cycle between the two. Trying to make sure that you’re eating healthy food at mealtimes, with regular nutritious snacks, is a good starting point for feeling OK and able to cope when life throws us some stress and triggers big feelings.
