Chapter Sixteen

Lizzy

My head is killing me. I feel as if I drank way too much, and a jackhammer is pounding in my skull. I try to open my eyes, but they feel heavy. Why do they feel heavy?

There are beeping sounds to my right, and I’m so cold.

What in the hell is going on?

I try to think, but my head hurts too much, and my eyes won’t work.

I hear the beeping getting louder and more frantic.

Someone tell me what’s going on!

“Shhh. Elizabeth, relax. You’re ok. Everything is ok.”

Jordan? Jordan, what is going on? I try to say the words, but nothing comes out.

“Nurse!” I hear Jordan yell. “I’m not sure what’s wrong, but she is distraught.”

“Don’t worry, sweetie,” I hear a voice say, “This will make you feel better.”

What? I don’t understand, but the next thing I know, the blackness retakes me.

The next time I wake up, I can open my eyes. They feel like sandpaper, and everything is bright as hell, but still, I call it a win. My head is still pounding, but it has dulled just a bit. Win number two in my book.

I move my head to the right to find out where that insufferable beeping is coming from, but the movement makes me want to throw up, and I quickly close my eyes to keep the nauseousness at bay. Okay, slow movements from now on.

When I open my eyes again, I see the beeping coming from medical equipment, and that equipment is hooked up to me.

Okay, I’m in a hospital, but why? Looking around slowly, I see that I am definitely in a hospital and that I am hooked up to a lot of machines, one of which is currently sticking out of my mouth.

Trying not to panic but failing, I try to move, but everything hurts too much. I hear the machines beep louder and then feel the bed move.

“Hey, baby, sis. You’re ok. I’m right here.”

Jordan is in my line of sight, and I will admit that he looks like hell. His hair is a mess, and he has enormous circles under his eyes, but I have never been so happy to see him.

“Don’t try to talk; you have a tube down your throat to help you breathe. When you came in, you were having trouble breathing, so this was to help you out. I’ll call the nurse and see what we can do. Ok?”

I nod my head, relaxing a bit. I still have no idea why I’m here, but knowing Jordan is with me makes me feel so much better.

Soon a few new people walk in with Jordan.

“Hey, sweetie. Glad to see you’re awake.” She gives me a warm smile. “Okay, let’s see if we can get this tube out. Now, this might hurt, and you may throw up, but that is all perfectly normal.”

I nod my head at her.

Within minutes the tube is out, and she is so right. My throat hurts, and it’s crazy dry. She holds a cup of water with a straw out for me, and I take a small drink.
