Chapter 6

Did You Miss Me?

Megan was rushed to the Emergency Room for immediate medical attention. Angie is terrified, and she’s debating if she should call their parents or not (she’s not sure how she’s gonna explain what happened). She’s just sitting trying to figure out if she should just see what the doctors say first. One thing is for sure—the ride to the hospital felt like an eternity.

While Megan is unconscious, she’s dreaming about her days back when she was living in Texas. It’s like she was looking at her reckless, younger self. She saw herself working at Blue Diamond, hanging out and laughing with Zayn, as well as enjoying those times with Mercedes. She saw images of joy and positivity—back when things were simpler.

In the midst of her seeing all of the happiness, she immediately sees everything shift into darkness. As everything goes dark, she starts to hear agonizing crying in the background. As she takes a few steps, she looks over across the way to see Mercedes’ mom down on her knees, crying; then, she slowly walks towards Mrs. Alvarez. As she approaches Mrs. Alvarez, she goes to kneel to check on her.

Megan senses something behind her, then she turns around to see Dr. Alvarez down on his knees, crying. As she diverts her attention towards him, she hears more crying behind her. When she turns around, she sees Mercedes down on her knees crying next to her mom too—they just appeared out of nowhere.

In this dream, Megan sees herself standing in the middle of all three of them, but it’s like none of them could see her. It made her fall into a melancholic trance. As she’s standing there, observing the Alvarez family cry together, she tries to ask them, “Hey...wha—what’s wrong?...” But none of them could hear her.

She looks at Mercedes as she cries her eyes out right there on the ground. Megan then sees Mercedes look up at her dad and asks, “Daddy, why did she leave? Why won’t she come back? This isn’t fair...” Dr. Alvarez couldn’t even find the words to respond to Mercedes. They all break down in sorrow again. Megan is wiping her own eyes as she witnesses this. For whatever reason, she couldn’t seem to take her eyes off of Mercedes.

She then sees another figure off in the distance, slowly approaching them all. Although the dream is very eerie, Megan isn’t scared, just concerned, and confused. As she looks at this figure approaching them, she’s trying to decide who or what this thing is. As the figure gets closer, she recognizes who it is—it’s Terrance.

After several years, she’s right here looking at Terrance walk up towards the circle they’re in. Megan is starstruck and doesn’t even know how to react. Rendered speechless, she manages to call out to him, “T—Terrance?” Terrance can’t see nor hear her—he keeps on walking towards the Alvarez family.

While Terrance is walking towards the circle, she starts to walk towards him (before he gets to the family).
