As soon as my coffee break with Nicki ended, I was off to get ready. I got my hair done, and then went straight home to prepare.

I’m not ashamed to admit I went all out for that date. I wore my nicest dress — a black number that really accentuated my figure — my more classy heels, and a nice blazer over top. He got there just as I finished my makeup and was putting on an old necklace.

“Hey there,” I said, opening the door and seeing him before me like never before.

Gone was the police uniform, and in its place he wore a well-cut suit that really hugged his broad, brawny figure. Frankly he looked like he belonged on a billboard, or in a James Bond flick.

“My god,” I said, looking him over.

“What? No good?” he asked, patting down his black suit, then straightening his thick, European cut maroon tie.

“No! I mean, yes! I mean—” I laughed and touched a hand to his chest.

“Damn, this is bad,” he said with a wry grin.

“No! You look… far better than I thought a man could look without airbrushing and Photoshop,” I said, smirking a little back at him. To which he rolled his broad shoulders, one hand in pocket as he extended his arm.

“And to think,” he said as I came out, hooped my slender arm through his, felt the hard muscle bulging beneath his outfit, “I was worried I might pass out looking at you in that dress. Thankfully the embarrassment you induced kept me on my toes.”

“This time the cleavage is on purpose,” I said, and boy was it. He got a near full show in my apartment a few nights before, no reason to skimp now.

He arched a brow and chuckled at me before leading me to his car. It was an old make BMW, an expensive vehicle but it was over ten years old. Not that you could tell by looking at it, because it was in pristine condition.

“Wow,” I said, eyes a little wide. “You sure you aren’t on the take?” I asked, teasingly. He chuckled as he opened the side door for me.

“A friend of mine and I like to buy up old heaps and restore them,” he said, smiling as he helped me on in and shut the door for me. The conversation paused as he rounded the vehicle and got in on the driver’s side. “The only criminal thing about this is how little it cost to buy and restore,” he said with a cheeky grin.

“A man of many talents,” I retorted as he started it up and we set off.

“A man of some hobbies, more like it. Can’t be all about saving damsels in distress,” he said with dry humor, though I couldn’t help but smile.

“It’s okay, a big buff man all greasy from working over a car engine sounds utterly divine,” I responded, getting a chuckle from him.

When we arrived at our destination it didn’t look like much. It was recessed beneath a building, with an iron fence and stairs leading down to the door.
