Most Wanted Eight

The music blasted as loudly as it could get in the club, and Jayce had provided China with something great to wear for the crowd that she was to entertain. China was slightly nervous about the night because she still hadn’t seen anything about the shooting on television as of the eleven o’clock news. It was nearing twelve, and instead of waiting to see whether or not she should change her facial features with make-up, she decided to anyway, just in case she ended up on the television screen. There would be plenty people in the crowd, and she couldn’t chance it.

There was a load of makeup in the bag that she packed, so she started to transform into the woman she used to be. She contoured her nose which made it appear slimmer, and she glazed her eyelids and placed on fake eyelashes to make her eyes appealing while her foundation and powder changed her complexion slightly, giving her a browner tone. By the time she finished piling on the makeup and fluffing out her hair, the contour of her face wasn’t a dead giveaway for anyone…unless they already knew her. There should not have been any dancer at the club that could make her out because it had been over ten years since she danced, and most people she knew had already moved on. This would work to her advantage.

As time winded down, she prepared to keep her head down and walk down the hallway. Before she walked out the door, Jayce unlocked the door and walked inside. There she stood, fully dressed to undress and ready to go, and Jayce still liked what he saw.

“I see you’re ready, but why all that big of a change? You look better without that little ass nose,” he teased. “You don’t want anyone to recognize you, do you?”

“Obviously, Jayce. Thanks, too.”

“You got that VIP. Just go out there, and do your thing. They just came through the door. Let the drinks come, and when the money starts flyin’, turn it up. He’s over there waiting on you, so don’t make us look bad, baby girl. You know his pockets are deep,” he stated pertaining to the celebrity that he’d obviously convinced somehow to request her.

There was a deep silence, and neither one of them knew what else to say. It was awkward for China because she didn’t know why Jayce was staring at her like he had something important to tell her. Finally, the mood changed when he opened his mouth.

“You know I checked things out about you. I can’t have heat come down on me without knowing what to do or say in order to look out for you.”

China only looked away. She knew he would end up investigating things, but the code for Jayce was that he never wanted to know facts. He always wanted to put things together on his own because he wasn’t a snitch. What he didn’t know for a fact, he couldn’t say to police under assumption.
