Willa

The door clicked shut after Andre’s departure. I stumbled over to the bed and dropped onto it, my legs couldn’t hold my weigh a moment longer.

I put my head in my hands and sobbed.

I sobbed because Wes was dead.

I sobbed because Scarlett was pregnant and alone.

I sobbed because Andre kissed me, and I’d enjoyed every single moment of his lips against mine.

He kissed me. Andre kissed me and I kissed him back because I liked it.

His touch was desperate, passionate, same as always.

And his lips possessed mine in exactly the way I liked it.

But I had no idea what I was supposed to do now.

One kiss and I was screwed. Again. Andre wasn’t the reason I was here. My focus needed to be on Scarlett. He’d have to wait.

It was going to be difficult to ignore him though. I fumbled in my bag for some clothes; jeans and a tank, making sure to put a bra on this time. I pulled my damp blonde hair into a ponytail and slicked some balm onto my bruised lips. My reflection stared back at me, my eyes over bright and full of emotion.

So many emotions.

With a deep sigh, I drew my shoulders back and straightened up. I had to go and deal with this.

Andre was waiting in the kitchen. Whether he was deliberately lingering there for me, I couldn’t be sure.

“How are your knife skills?” I asked, turning my back on him and getting the breakfast supplies from the refrigerator.

“My what?”

I span around and tossed the tray of mushrooms at him. “Slice these while I grill the bacon and prep the eggs.”

He grinned. “Yes, chef!” He grabbed a knife from the drawer and a chopping board from the side and set about his task with enthusiasm.

If he thought that with one kiss I was going to swoon and melt and be with him, he’d be wrong. Or would he be?

He’d gotten to me.

I stirred the eggs as they started to scramble, trying to focus on the task and keep my mind off my inner turmoil. Andre finished chopping and passed the mushrooms to me. I tossed them into another pan and boiling hot oil splashed up onto my hand.

“Shit!” I jumped backwards and crashed into Andre. The warmth of his body met mine, his breath on my neck, and my nipples tightened. His hands were on my hips to steady me, although I felt anything but.

“Are you okay?”

“It’s only a burn,” I blustered. “I’m used to it. Hazard of the job.”

“If you’re sure?” He released me and took my hand instead, turning it over to examine it for signs of damage.

My heart raced at his light touch.

This has got to stop.

I pulled away and returned to the stove. “Can you get some plates? And make some toast?”

We worked in silence, plating up the food and making fresh tea, before delivering the results to Scarlett, Lyla and Maddox. There was a small table and chairs in the corner of the living room, which Lyla and Maddox took.
