Guy ran for safety with Synaria holding his hand. He ducked from flaming magitech arrows, then pulled out his communicator, thumbing Ulysses’s contact information. “Ulysses, move the Seraphim away from the land right fucking now.”

“What’s up, mon ami?”

“Vix is here. Don’t let him get a free ride on the Seraphim should I lose sight of him.” Guy and Synaria ducked again from another set of beams flying over their head. He came up from the duck to add. “Uh, anyway, gotta go. Talk to you later!”

Guy cut the communication link and placed the device back into his pocket. After that, he looked at his AP gauge and smiled. The fight with Vix had left him with AP for Stealth. God, he loved being able to hold more than 100 AP now. Meanwhile, he noticed that Synaria’s AP was rising every second. She had sipped what little Ginseng Tea she had left in her inventory. Guy was the first to fade away with Stealth, swirling light particles rendering him unseeable to the naked eye. Synaria vanished seconds later within spinning tree leaves.

The druid guards stopped and shifted their searching faces about. “Which way did they go?”

“This way!” another shouted and pointed.

The druids trotted in a direction away from where Guy had run. He felt a tiny hand tug him from behind. It was a hand Guy couldn’t see despite turning around and looking.

“That better be you, Syn.”

“It is,” Synaria said from the shadows. She held his hand, squeezing it tight. “Come with me. Let us get off the streets while we still can.”

“I was just going to say the same thing,” said the voice of a third party.

A druid wielding a bow with a nocked arrow approached Guy and Synaria. And he narrowed his eyes right at Guy. “You can drop the Stealth act. I can see you.”

The bow-wielding druid could see them even though they were cloaked with the Stealth skill. Guy glared at the druid, having recognized who he was. The druid was the keeper of the inn he and the others had slept at.

The fuck? Guy eyed the innkeeper closer, close enough to force his information to appear.

The innkeeper was a Ranger. A star-druid at that.

His True Sight trait detected Guy in Stealth. Guy wished he had examined the innkeeper like that earlier. He would have known his secret when they first saw each other.

“I’m with the resistance,” the innkeeper said.

Guy snorted. “Oh yeah? And how do I know that you’re not pulling my leg?”

“Because I have a class like you?” The innkeeper replied. “Because I’m the one who recognized you upon your arrival and offered free rooms to stay in, unlike the other inns?”

“And did a hell of a job preventing Vix from infiltrating.”

Guy figured he could trust the innkeeper though. With his level and rank, he could have quickly fired a couple of arrows into Guy but didn’t. Just to the on the safe side, Guy kept one hand reaching back for Asteria’s Sword.
