Favor is a currency that every believer in God must have. Queen Esther asked Mordecai to pray and fast with her so that she could get favor with the king, her husband. When they prayed, God favored Esther. This means that one can pray for favor from God. My wife and I have a slogan every time we need to get something done and seem not to have money. We tell each other, “Use favor until money comes”.
Ruth believed God for favor as she went out to harvest. “Let me go to the fields and pick up the leftover grain behind anyone in whose eyes I find favor” (Ruth 2:2). Without the favor of God, it is very hard to break the spirit of poverty. I know of people who have labored, worked both smart and hard, and lacked favor; and so they never prospered.
One such person shared with me his pain in life. He had done everything a person can do to break poverty but was still unable to make ends meet and, as it were, was living from hand to mouth. Then I heard a whisper: “favor”. I asked God to favor him and he left. I told him to go back and do the things he had tried to do before. It didn’t take long before the man came back to testify to what God had done for him. He had prospered big time.
My Prayer for You
May God favor you in whatever you put your hands to do. May favor distinguish and lift you to higher heights. Like Ruth was favored in a foreign land, may God favor you in foreign circumstances, nations and even careers. “…why have I found favor in your eyes, that you should take notice of me, since I am a foreigner?” (Ruth 2:10 NKJV). Like Nehemiah, may you find favor with the kings and the authorities. May that favor come with supplies for the vision that God has given you. Amen.
PRACTICAL APPLICATION
The Power of Giving
“Giving is more than a responsibility—it is a privilege; more than an act of obedience—it is evidence of our faith.” — William Arthur Ward, American educator
Two great things that I believe describe God’s actions towards humanity are love and giving. “ For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son ...” (John 3:16). In the same way, two things that tell me whether a person will prosper or will be poor is their love for God and his people, and their giving to both. The reason why God blesses people with money is so that they can continue representing him on earth through giving.
I love telling people that giving and loving are inseparable, though love is superior to giving. It is possible to give without love but it is not possible to love without giving. The one universal language the world understands is love, and the one test that you must pass as you serve God and humanity is giving. God tested Abraham’s love through giving.
