On a stainless steel stool in the visiting room at Wyatt Detention Center, A-Plus sat uncomfortably. He was stationed at a booth with a glass partition that had a small metal grate inserted to allow sound to pass through. These types of settings were especially hard now that he was so recognizable. On his side of the glass he was one man amongst an abundance of sexually frustrated female fans.

“What’s crackin’!” Young Bek said after taking his seat on the opposite side of the glass.

“You, me, Biltmore.” A-Plus said with a grim face.

“Damn cuz, I’m in here with all these funky ass niggas. You out there with all the hoes. I should be the one with the twisted face.” Bek said. “What’s up? Why you all bent out of shape playboy?”

“I tried to tell you…”

“I already know cuz.” Bek interrupted. “I been thinking about what you told me since they snatched my ass up. All money ain’t good money, but money is the only thing that make me happy.”

“Money ain’t everything. Perfect said your case ain’t gonna be no walk in the park.”

“Im’a get about fifteen. My lawyer put in a motion to have the dope’s purity tested. Once they break it down to its purest form it’ll be about two bricks. That, plus the gun and the fact that I ain’t got a record as a adult…” Young Bek said. “I should be good.”

A-Plus inhaled then exhaled a deep breath before slumping on his stool. Hearing his homie talking about accepting fifteen years in prison as if it was nothing did something to him. He thought about all the people that had been snatched from his life and it felt like it wouldn’t end. The pressures of the world were just starting to wear on his shoulders and legs.

“So you ain’t going to trial?”

“Hell no homie! I ain’t trying these people so they can smoke me like they did Big Ray.” Young Bek said. “I’m rich, I’m twenty and my homie is the hardest nigga in the game right now. Im’a do this time, you gonna keep my name alive and when I touch down in my early thirties, I’m still gonna be that nigga. It’s better than banging in South Central until a nigga murder me or I catch a murder charge.”

“I brought y’all niggas out East. I feel like I…”

“Don’t blame yourself homie. Yeah I was in the studio putting it down but Im’a gangster at heart. This is what happens to gangsters so I ain’t mad.” Young Bek said. “I should write a book on my life.”

“Crazy’s funeral is today.” A-Plus said solemnly.

This time it was Young Bek that inhaled and exhaled an extensive breath before slouching on the stool. A-Plus could see pain in his homie’s eyes. He wondered if Bek had been tormented with memories of the Crip Six Crew like he had. Every time he took time away from his music to unwind he was assaulted by the good old days.
