Twenty-Eight

I wake to my husband whispering sweet nothings in my ear at six in the freaking morning.

“Unless you’re planning to put me into an orgasmic coma, I suggest you leave me alone,” I say, not opening my eyes.

“While on the list, I have to say not yet. Come on, it’s your birthday, and I’m not letting you spend it in yoga pants. Well, not all of it.”

“Fine, but you have to carry me since I’m the birthday girl.”

“No problem.” I’m lifted from the bed, and he carries me into the bathroom, plopping me on the floor. I look, and the tub is filled with little white and pink flowers, and it smells wonderful. “I had a feeling you’d want some pampering.”

“You just thought of it all. Are we sharing, or is it just me all alone?”

He grabs the hem of my sleep shirt, stripping me to my panties in a single action. “Would you want to have me smelling like orchids all day? No, Queenie, I’ll let you relax, and I’ll wash your hair for you. I have a great hair mask from Heidi for you. Then we can get dressed and get going.”

“Fine.” I pout, shimmying out of my panties and stepping into the water.

After leaving me to soak in the tub, Bryce finally comes back in. Soaking has felt amazing on my muscles, but I wished Bryce would have stayed with me, though. He’s messing around at the sink, and I’m just watching him.

“What are you doing?” I finally ask.

He looks at me in the mirror with a smile. “Just packing up a few things.”

“What are you packing?”

“The spare toothbrushes and stuff. I have a little something planned for your first birthday as a married woman.” Grabbing a bath sheet, he walks to the edge of the tub. “C’mon, I have your clothes all laid out.”

I flip the plug on the tub before standing. “Should I be worried?”

A kiss relieves me of my concerned expression. “Not at all.”

He wraps me in the oversized bath sheet before carrying me to the bedroom. “You are like, really happy today,” I wrap my arms around his neck.

“This is the first time I get to really do something for you.” He puts me down, grabbing a duffle bag off the bed before kissing my cheek. “See ya out there in a couple.” He leaves me to get dressed.

I look at the clothes he’s got laid out for me. Shorts and a tank. “Do I have time to do my makeup and hair?” I call after him.

“Go minimal, not that you need it.” He calls back.

Well then…What is minimal? I already do little, and they are usually neutral. Sheesh. After drying off, I have to take the blow dryer to my hair. I am not walking out of here with a nappy head. Not sure what Bryce has planned, I pack some makeup and hair products. Lip gloss and nice hair can go a long way.

I’m dressed and out of the bedroom with a makeup bag, as I go to grab my purse from the chair in the living room, I find it’s not there.
