Example 1 (based on Scenario 1)

The actor playing Chris has a naturally cheeky personality, and is used to overstepping boundaries, using charm to get his way. From the start, his actual personality, as one might expect, becomes the basis for his character’s attitude and strategies. The improvisation begins as follows:

AMANDA sits on the sofa, feet up, reading the Disability Discrimination Act booklet. There is a Knock on the Door. She is exasperated, but goes to answer it, booklet in hand.

CHRIS You’re busy.

AMANDA I’m busy… You came in!

CHRIS I came in.

AMANDA You came in.

CHRIS You’re in a mood.

AMANDA I’m in a mood??!

CHRIS You’re in a mood.

AMANDA You sat down.

AMANDA You’re staying.

CHRIS I’m staying… You look fantastic.
