What a mess. What a huge, fucking, fucked up mess. When your old man says there are fourteen human trafficking survivors in your common room waiting on our friend Whisky and a female gynecologist to arrive, nothing prepares you for what you’re about see. Nothing. You think you know, but you have no idea. Fourteen women who’ve been abused and malnourished. Fourteen women ranging from teens to twenty-something. Fourteen victims fighting an internal battle after being used for months. I’ve been working nonstop for an hour in their presence and I’m still in shock. Unsure of what to say, what to do… other than be me—the fixer.

Big filled in a few blanks during our talk. As to be expected it was only the need to know stuff. They were kidnapped, held hostage, and sold or resold, when Big and his fellow brothers came to assist. People died, I inferred that part, because Big would never tell me what really went down. They were hours from home, but close enough he could bring them here before more violence ensued. He implied he knew this would eventually happen after years of working behind the scenes with Rosie to save trafficked women. Which tells you everything in itself—I don’t know jack. Not like I thought I did. Sure, we’ve had club lockdowns and close calls. That’s normal. What I didn’t know were the details. The dirty parts… Things Big has always tried to hide from me. Whether it be for my own good or the club’s, I dunno. Only that we’re in the thick of it now. This lockdown isn’t a joke. Forty-seven brothers are here from Sacred Sinners chapters all over the country. Women are laying on cots in our common room. Hell, there are men with guns patrolling the compound. Shit just got real.

Handing over a plate of food to a dark-haired woman with circles beneath her eyes, I smile to be friendly when all I want to do is help her shower, give her a hug, and kill every motherfucker who put her through this hell. “Here. Hope you like ham.”

It's not like I had time to go grocery shopping. I haven't been in over a week. With the brothers gone and no return in sight, I didn't want to stock fresh food in the clubhouse fridge for it to spoil. I'm improvising with what we have. The more I do, the worse I feel. Their first goddamn meals after being set free shouldn't be this… Sandwiches with week-old bread and crappy chips none of the brothers packed for the run. The Sacred Sisters all raided their kitchens. Between feeding the women and the men, we're fucked. If Big doesn't send someone for supplies tonight, we'll be out of food by tomorrow, maybe sooner. We're not equipped for this size of crowd. Not without notice. A phone call would've been nice.

In the kitchen, Debbie’s working on thawing the two roasts Jez had in her freezer. It won’t go far, but it’s better than nothing.
