Chapter 7

Jared watched as the Hunter and Akira walked out of his door. Dani entered shortly after their departure with his ‘I told you so’ look written all across his face.

“I don’t want to hear it,” Jared said as he held up a hand to stop the lecture coming as the Omega stared up at him.

Dani shook his head and pushed away Jared’s hand. “I told you the Hunter wasn’t the one who killed Terri.” His blue eyes sparkled with mischief as he gazed at Jared with a loving expression. Jared sighed. His Dani was always right. Jared cupped the Omega’s cheek.

“Deep down, I knew it, too,” Jared admitted. “Whoever killed Terri wouldn’t dare show their face here. Leon and I could smell them all over Terri’s body when we went to Damian’s club. I just wish Akira had been able to get the information from Damian before the Hunters had scared him off. Damn, that vamp’s a coward. He didn’t even wait for us at his club when those monsters killed Terri.”

Sighing, Jared plopped down in his desk chair. It was no use. If he wanted to know what had happened to Terri, he would have to wait until Damian came out of hiding. Other than his lover, Dani, and Leon, his Beta, Damian was the only one who knew about the secret rendezvous between Terri and the anonymous Hunter that had contacted Jared a few months back, and Damian was the only one who had been there the night Terri was murdered. He had to have seen Terri’s killer. But the slimy son of a bitch had already fled the scene by the time Jared and Leon arrived. Even though Leon got there before him, he hadn’t seen anything either.

Jared had replayed the night over and over again in his mind. It just didn’t make sense. Jared looked at the letter he’d received only two days ago from the Hunter Terri was supposed to meet with that night. It was a letter stating that the Hunter had yet to receive a confirmation on the new meeting place and time. Jared had never requested the original plan to be canceled, and because Terri had followed that plan, he’d been killed.

“Maybe Leon’s theory is right. Maybe this Hunter Terri was supposed to meet with had set us up and killed him,” Dani whispered.

Jared shook his head. “I don’t think so. Why else would he send a letter stating that he never received a reply from us about our request to reschedule the meeting? Something doesn’t add up, and I want all the facts before I make my next move.”

Jared reached out for Dani, beckoning him closer so that he could wrap his arms around the smaller man’s waist. Jared laid his head on his chest as he hugged his lover tight. Dani stroked his hair in a comforting fashion. Closing his eyes and enjoying the feel of Dani touching him, Jared spoke. “I think whoever did this to Terri didn’t want us forming an alliance with the Hunters.
